Old MacDonald had some ... SPIDERS!
On the way home from Grandma and Grandpa's house Claire sang "Old MacDonald" for 20 minutes straight. She loves it when we sing it to her but we had never heard her sing it before. Most of the time the poor man only had spiders at his farm. The part you can't likely understand is the spiders saying "creepy crawly". Also, Finding Nemo is at times louder than Claire. Later on, Old MacDonald had some dinosaurs, Muno, Fufa, Yo Gabba Gabba, spiders, Mommy, Daddy, spiders, Jackson, Claire, spiders, spiders, cows, pigs, kitty cats, spiders, doggies, more dinosaurs, spiders a few more times, big Nemo, and spiders again.
There's a ton of background noise that makes it hard to hear, but life is hard.

Making WASP mothers feel like failures since 2010
Jackson was with Jason and his parents for the latter half of last week. We decided to spend some time at the Atlanta Botanical Garden after picking up Jackson but before returning home. Erin's parents thought that sounded like a good idea as well so they offered to come with us. While driving to Atlanta, Grandma made a small comment to Grandpa that the GPS indicated we had 42 more miles to go before we stayed on the same freeway we were already on. Claire overheard and counted 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49. She at least didn't know that 50 followed 49.
Backstory: Back in Gimmelshtump, Claire's parents read or heard about the idea of counting the stairs one ascends or descends while with baby to help teach said baby numbers. We're not perfect, but we usually try to remember to do so. We have 14 stairs going from the ground level to the upper level and 14 stairs going from the ground level to the basement. Consequently Claire is really good at counting 1-14 by herself. With help she can get to 20. We're impressed, but it's an old trick so it isn't generally noteworthy. We've never heard her count much past 25, however.
We were all very impressed with Miss Freakshow's apparent grasp of number patterns. When we arrived at the gardens, we packed into an elevator with a few other families. Claire likes elevators and likes to read the numbers on the display showing which floor you are on. Claire promptly shouted out FOUR! as the elevator displayed we were in fact on the fourth floor. It ascended to the fifth floor and she followed with FIVE! One of the WASP mothers on the elevator with us asked how old Claire was and was visibly disheartened to hear she was but 1 year old.
Another cute trick: Erin was counting on her fingers with Claire a little while back. Erin stuck out one finger and counted one then two fingers and counted two. Claire then pulled out Erin's thumb and said three. At least she's counting with ASL.
We've just started on her alphabet, but so far haven't made much progress past B-C. She apparently thinks "A" isn't relevant and is being used simply as an article.

Chocolate Cake
Claire plays "What's that?" before insisting that she's two years old. One day she might let us record her counting to 10. She likes to stop all of her tricks if she sees a camera or you're trying to show her off.

Magic Dancing
So, we introduced Jackson to the movie Labyrinth. You know the part where Bowie sings Magic Dance and tosses the baby up in the air? Well. Jackson has insisted that Danny recreate that part again and again...and again.
Danny has suggested that knee replacement surgery would make a good 30th birthday gift.

4 months old
Claire had her four-month doctor's appointment today. She's still hanging out at the 95th percentile for weight and 90th for height. So we got turned down for starting solids...
Good thing she snagged a piece of her daddy's watermelon this morning BEFORE the appointment.
She's meeting all her milestones and doing very well. And she's already happy and smiling after her 3 immunizations this morning.

Mother's day / Grandma's birthday
Claire got a little bit too much sun at Jackson's soccer game on Saturday so she had to wear a hat on Sunday. White looks good on her, huh?
She's always so happy after eating.
And then is ready to take a nap with grandma.
Jackson helped grandma blow out the candles on her birthday cake. They both completely failed. They were normal candles too. Attempt number two proved more successful.

Such a happy family. For the next few seconds at least, I think.
Claire wasn't much interested in having her picture taken either.
He would rather take other people's pictures, just like his mother. We have a few hundred pictures of the inside of a lighting store from last year when he was bored out of his mind but had access to our camera. Lucky us.

the little asian women stole our baby
We went to a Thai restaurant tonight. The food was decent but the apparently bored Asian women waitresses decided Claire looked nice enough to pick up and walk away with. They held and passed her around for a good 10-20 minutes. She liked it, Jackson was concerned, and I was a bit worried that they weren't going to give her back. I think when she becomes vocal she'll ask us to import a little Asian girl to do some housework so she can be reunited with her Asian women friends.
Today is the last day she'll fit in this outfit. It's cute but the pictures are horrible. Live with it.
Last night her wardrobe got organized. I'm sure when she's older that she'll hate me for trying to organize her clothes. At least she can't tell me yet that it makes her cry.

kids and stuff
I think these were all taken on the same day. At least she didn't make it into four outfits in one day. Three is more than plenty.
cookies
Erin wanted cookies so I made her some chocolate chip cookies. I don't understand why people post other cookie recipes online. They are all clearly inferior to Yaeling's chocolate chip cookies. They're still better even if you have to leave out the chocolate chips so a boy that pretends he doesn't like chocolate will have something to eat.
